Team Occupy, one of Egypt's top esports organizations, has announced that they will not participate in the upcoming VALORANT season due to unpaid prize money from Riot Games. The team claims they are still owed approximately $8,000 from the 2023 season, with payments delayed despite multiple promises.

In an official statement posted on March 6, 2025, Team Occupy expressed their frustration, saying:"This issue does not only affect us — all teams have outstanding payments, but most are afraid to speak up."
The organization criticized Riot Games' lack of communication, claiming that the delays have forced many professional teams out of the competition, leaving the tournament filled with "mix teams" instead of established organizations.
According to the statement, the payment delays have disproportionately affected Middle Eastern teams, who face unfair treatment compared to other regions. Team Occupy called for greater transparency from Riot Games, urging the developer to prioritize paying teams before launching the new season.
The statement concluded with a powerful message:"How can a strong league be built if teams are treated this way?"
Founded in 2021 by AFG Sports Group, Team Occupy has become one of Egypt’s leading esports organizations. Their decision to boycott the tournament marks a significant moment for the Middle Eastern esports scene, bringing attention to the ongoing struggles teams face in the region.
With esports continuing to grow globally, this move raises important questions about how tournament organizers treat smaller regions — and whether their voices will finally be heard.
