Riot Games has officially unveiled additional details about the future of the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT), revealing a revamped qualification structure, expanded regional pathways, and significant financial support programs set to launch with the VCT 2027 season.

Riot Games unveils VCT 2027 featuring open qualifiers, 14 regional leagues, promotion and relegation, and up to $400,000 in team incentives.

The announcement provides the clearest look yet at Riot’s vision for a more open and performance-driven competitive ecosystem, where teams must continually earn their place at the highest level regardless of partnership status.

VCT 2027 Kickoff Events to Feature Open Qualifiers

One of the biggest changes arriving in 2027 is the return of 12-team Kickoff tournaments across VCT Americas, EMEA, and Pacific. Each Kickoff event will feature eight partner organizations alongside four teams that qualify through open competition. The top three teams from every Kickoff will advance directly to Masters events.

Riot Games unveils VCT 2027 featuring open qualifiers, 14 regional leagues, promotion and relegation, and up to $400,000 in team incentives.

While partnered teams will continue to receive direct entry into Kickoff tournaments, Riot has emphasized that participation in future Cups and Masters events will be determined entirely through performance.

Teams that fail to perform at international events or regional Cups will be relegated into the Open Playoff system and must fight their way back through qualification pathways. Riot says the system is designed to ensure every match carries competitive significance throughout the season.

Fourteen Regional Competitions to Feed the Global Circuit

The VCT ecosystem will be built around 14 regional competitions that serve as qualification routes into the global circuit. These tournaments will operate under the four major international leagues: Americas, EMEA, Pacific, and China.

VCT Americas

  • North America

  • LATAM North

  • LATAM South

  • Brazil

VCT EMEA

  • Europe

  • Türkiye

  • MENA

VCT Pacific

  • South Korea

  • Japan

  • Thailand

  • Indonesia

  • Vietnam

  • Wild Card Region (Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, and the rest of Southeast Asia)

VCT China

  • China

The Pacific region receives one of the largest expansions under the new system, with Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam becoming standalone regional competitions. Riot believes the move will create more opportunities for players and organizations in some of VALORANT's fastest-growing markets.

South Asia and Oceania will qualify through the Pacific Wild Card pathway.

VCT China Retains Visitor Team System

Unlike other regions, VCT China will continue utilizing its Visitor Team model.

Kickoff tournaments in China will feature:

  • 8 Partner Teams

  • 2 Visitor Teams

  • 2 Open Qualifier Teams

Both Partner and Visitor teams will receive direct entry into Kickoff events and the first two Cups of the season, while the system continues to support promotion and relegation opportunities unique to the Chinese ecosystem.

Riot Introduces Roster Continuity Rules

To support emerging organizations and creator-led teams, Riot has introduced a roster continuity system for VCT 2027.

Teams will be able to retain qualification points and competitive progression throughout the season if they maintain at least three of their five starting players. Riot believes this will help smaller organizations establish long-term stability while rewarding roster consistency.

Non-Partner Teams to Receive Guaranteed Financial Support

Perhaps the most significant announcement from Riot concerns financial support for non-partner organizations.

Riot Games unveils VCT 2027 featuring open qualifiers, 14 regional leagues, promotion and relegation, and up to $400,000 in team incentives.

For the first time in VCT history, open teams that qualify for major events will receive guaranteed fixed payouts based on their achievements. These payments are separate from prize pools and travel support.

Qualification Incentives

  • Qualify for Kickoff or a Cup: $100,000 USD

  • Qualify for Masters: $200,000 USD

  • Qualify for Champions: $400,000 USD

In addition, non-partner teams that qualify for the Game Changers Championship will receive an extra $100,000 USD incentive payment, further strengthening Riot’s support for the broader competitive ecosystem.

Riot's Vision for a More Open VCT

According to Leo Faria, Global Head of VALORANT Esports, the VCT 2027 structure is designed to reward performance while creating more opportunities for teams worldwide.

"VCT 2027 is built around a simple belief: the best teams should earn their place every step of the way and every match matters."

Riot says the new system will create a more competitive environment where organizations can rise through regional competition and progress into Cups, Masters, and ultimately Champions based entirely on results.

While details regarding slot allocations, qualification formats, and partner team selections are still to be revealed, Riot has confirmed that further information will be shared ahead of VALORANT Champions.

For now, VCT 2027 appears set to be one of the biggest structural changes in VALORANT esports history, offering a clearer pathway for aspiring organizations and opening the door for more teams to compete on the global stage.
