Going into this match, all eyes were on Wolves Esports. The Chinese team has been the clear underdog during the event. Shutting down some of the best teams in the tournament. In their previous match, they faced off against Gen G and won 2-0. With a spot in the grand finals, they face off against the primos of W Gaming: Paper Rex. This tournament has been quite topsy-turvy for PRX. With the addition of PatMan to their roster, they are more structured. It can be noticed that the team plays with more discipline and focuses on the fundamentals. Map 1 was a close affair with neither team giving up or losing their cool. Wolves Esports showcased their skill both on defence and attack with some unique strategies. On this map, we saw a point where Wolves Esports got multiple kills by the use of the Killjoy nanoswarms. Paper Rex pushed the score into overtime and secured the win 14-12.

Map 2 was a completely different story. Each player from Paper Rex was in their element on Ascent. Paper Rex won 9 rounds in a row, resulting in the match now being a test of the mental strength of Wolves Esports. Sadly, until their series against Gen G, Wolves Esports couldn’t make the comeback and lost the map 13-8. With this Paper, Rex secured their spot in the grand finals of VALORANT Masters Toronto. This would be the second VCT Masters grand finals Paper Rex has qualified for. The last time they achieved this feat was during the VALORANT Masters Copenhagen in 2022. With this loss, Wolves Esports will play their first-ever international best-of-5 series in the lower bracket finals.

FNATIC Continues Their Reign of Dominance against G2 Esports

Back in 2023, the team of FNATIC and G2 Esports was on quite a different trajectory. FNATIC won VCT Lock//IN and VALORANT Masters Tokyo back to back. Meanwhile, the team of G2 Esports was playing in VALORANT Challengers and secured their spot for VCT Ascension 2023. During that time, they played under the organisation The Guard and won the event. Resulting in G2 Esports acquiring the team, which has played in VCT Americas since 2024. During the 2024 season, neither team could secure an international trophy, but they did qualify for VALORANT Champions 2024.

During the tournament, they faced off against each other. FNATIC won that series 2-0. One year later, they face off against each other, and the loser is eliminated from the tournament. Before this event, many believed that G2 Esports was the favourite to win. Sadly, this wasn’t the case as they again lost to FNATIC 2-0. A significant reason for this is that FNATIC has adapted to the post-Tejo nerf meta better than G2 Esports has. We have seen this even with Paper Rex and Wolves Esports. The nerf of Tejo has resulted in a new meta when compared to the previous VALORANT Masters tournament.

With this, FNATIC will face off against Wolves Esports in a best-of-5 series in the lower bracket finals. The winner of this match will face off in the grand finals against Paper Rex.
