Jason Lake Cites Financial Constraints As The Reason for Complexity CS2 Exit

Lake explained that financial struggles were the key factor in the decision to step away. According to him, the costs of maintaining a top-tier roster in CS2 were not sustainable under the organisation’s current circumstances.
“Due to the financial challenges of sustaining a competitive lineup, we cannot continue in CS2 at this time,” Lake said. “There are no immediate plans to return, and it may take some time before you see Complexity back in the game that built our legacy.”
The statement also clarified that there are no short-term intentions to rebuild a roster, suggesting that Complexity’s departure from CS2 could be long-term rather than a temporary absence.
Passion UA Picks Up ex-Complexity Roster
Shortly after the announcement, Ukrainian organisation Passion UA revealed their new CS2 roster, which features most of the former Complexity lineup. The squad is set to compete under Passion UA’s banner moving forward.
The announcement signals a new chapter for the lineup, as Passion UA aims to establish itself on the international stage with proven players. “New challenges lie ahead, great goals and victories, which we will achieve together with you,” the team wrote in their statement.

What’s next for Complexity?
With their withdrawal, the future of Complexity in Counter-Strike remains uncertain. The organisation will continue to operate in other titles, but for fans of North American CS, the loss of a long-standing brand is a significant blow.
Whether Complexity eventually makes a return will depend on the financial health of the organisation and the evolution of the CS2 ecosystem. For now, their absence leaves a gap in the NA scene and raises questions about the sustainability of top-level Counter-Strike teams in the region.
