A controversy involving Vietnamese content creator and Game Changers player imvietnamesegirl has sparked backlash within the VALORANT community after she revealed she had been removed from a planned showmatch lineup less than a day before the VCT Pacific Stage 1 Finals in Ho Chi Minh City were set to begin.

According to a public statement posted on social media by Quynh Anh, also known as imvietnamesegirl, she had originally been invited by VNG to participate in a 2v2 showmatch alongside Layla during the Pacific Stage 1 Finals weekend at the Thiskyhall Sala Convention Center. However, she claims she only received notice that her appearance had been cancelled at around midnight on May 16 — less than 24 hours before the showmatch was scheduled to take place on May 17.

Imvietnamesegirl and the VCT Pacific Showmatch: What Happened

In her statement, imvietnamesegirl explained that she had already spent several days preparing for the event before suddenly receiving notice that she had been removed from the lineup. She also stated that the initial message she received did not include a detailed explanation, which further added to her confusion about the situation.

The controversy escalated after she contacted crazyguy, who had also reportedly been invited to participate. According to imvietnamesegirl, crazyguy informed her that VNG had reached out to him on short notice to replace her after another participant became unavailable. She also claimed that, during her conversations with organizers, there was never a clear confirmation regarding whether she would officially remain part of the lineup.

imvietnamesegirl stated that she had initially attempted to resolve the matter privately before speaking publicly, but ultimately felt that communication from organizers lacked transparency throughout the process. Prior to the cancellation, she had already participated in promotional content filming and livestream activities requested by VNG in preparation for the event weekend.

In a follow-up comment, she further clarified that she had never personally withdrawn from the showmatch — directly addressing rumours that began circulating online after the situation surfaced. She emphasised that she had remained committed to the event throughout the entire preparation period, and noted that even the team name planned for the showmatch had been created by her — describing the project as something she had invested significant time and effort into from the start.

VNG and Riot's Handling of the imvietnamesegirl Controversy

The incident spread quickly across Vietnamese VALORANT social media, with many community members criticising the way the situation was handled. Much of the backlash centred around the timing of the cancellation, the communication between organisers and invited talent, and the absence of an immediate public response after the controversy emerged.

As of publication, neither VNG nor Riot Games has released a detailed official statement directly addressing the situation. The controversy has nonetheless sparked wider discussions within the community regarding professionalism, talent management, and communication standards surrounding official VALORANT events in the Pacific region.

Community reactions remain divided. Some fans believe the issue may have stemmed from internal scheduling or logistical complications tied to the event, while others argue that the overall handling reflected poorly on the organisers regardless of the reasons behind the lineup change.

Growing Attention Around VCT Pacific Stage 1 Event Operations

The controversy arrives during one of the largest VALORANT events ever hosted in Vietnam. The VCT Pacific Stage 1 Finals marked the first time Vietnam hosted a tier-one VCT Pacific event, with the Thiskyhall Sala Convention Center bringing together top teams, creators, and personalities from across the region. While the event itself received significant praise for its crowd atmosphere and production quality, the showmatch controversy quickly became one of the most discussed off-stage topics of the tournament weekend.

Whether VNG or Riot Games will provide further clarification regarding the lineup change — or directly address the community's concerns — remains to be seen.
