Gen.G Worlds 2025: Quarterfinals Victory Over Hanwha Life Esports

After an intense Swiss Stage and a short break, the action at the League of Legends World Championship resumed, marking the first semifinalist and another team’s elimination. Gen.G took down Hanwha Life Esports (HLE) with a 3-1 victory in the quarterfinals of Worlds 2025, securing a spot in the next phase.

Gen.G Worlds 2025: Quarterfinals Victory Over Hanwha Life Esports

The October 28 matchday featured the first quarterfinal series of the Worlds 2025 bracket, a rematch of the 2025 LCK final. Hanwha Life Esports faced Gen.G in a best-of-five(Bo5) series that ended in a decisive 3-1, sending the reigning MSI champions into the next stage.

Gen.G’s Controlled Performance Secures Series

The series started evenly, with Hanwha Life Esports gaining a small early-game lead that allowed them to secure the first objectives of the match. However, a teamfight near the dragon pit helped Gen.G regain control and turn the game in their favor. HLE tried to force Baron Nashor, but a failed attempt led to a full team wipe, sealing their loss in 33 minutes.

For the second game, both teams drafted compositions focused on strong engagements, leading to an action-packed early game. Canyon managed the map more efficiently, giving Gen.G an edge in neutral objectives. Hanwha Life Esports secured a Baron Nashor that opened a path toward Gen.G’s base, but once again, Gen.G proved superior. With key pickoffs on Zeka and Zeus, they closed out the longest game of the competitive season, lasting nearly 60 minutes, to take a 2-0 lead.

Hanwha Life Esports Strike Back, But Gen.G Seal the Series

In Game 3, Hanwha Life Esports secured more comfortable picks with Yone for Zeka and Sivir for Viper. Although Gen.G opted for power picks like Viktor for Chovy and Sion for Kiin, HLE was superior from the early game, snowballing quickly to make their composition unstoppable. With well-executed teamfights, Hanwha Life closed out their first win of the series.

However, in the following game, Gen.G targeted Zeus’s Camille, punishing the top laner from the early minutes and completely shutting him down. The MSI champions maintained their lead into the mid game with constant ganks and well-coordinated teamfights around neutral objectives, making it difficult for HLE to recover. Hanwha Life tried to stall the game long enough for Viper’s Smolder to scale, but they couldn’t stop Chovy and his teammates, who sealed the series in under 30 minutes.

Peanut Retires After Hanwha Life’s Elimination

Hanwha Life Esports’ defeat not only marks the team’s elimination from Worlds 2025 but also the end of Peanut’s professional career. The veteran LCK jungler had announced that he would retire from competitive play after Worlds to fulfill his mandatory military service in South Korea.

Upcoming Worlds 2025 Schedule

The Worlds 2025 schedule continues on October 29 with the quarterfinal matchup between KT Rolster and CTBC Flying Oyster. The winner of the best-of-five series will face Gen.G in the semifinals. All matches are broadcast live on the official LoL Esports channels on YouTube, Twitch, and LoLEsports.com, where fans can also claim exclusive rewards.
