Anthony “vanity” Malaspina has officially announced his retirement from professional esports, ending a six-year journey across VALORANT and Counter-Strike. In a heartfelt statement, the former Cloud9 in-game leader explained his decision to step away from competition, signaling the close of a chapter that had been weighing on him for some time.

This announcement comes months after vanity’s removal from Cloud9 in August 2024. Following his departure, a Dust2.us report by Jeff “Mnmzzz” Moore on January 1, 2025, linked him to a potential return to Counter-Strike with TSM’s new roster, alongside players like MarKE. Despite the reports and initial efforts to reignite his competitive spirit, vanity ultimately realized that his time in professional play had run its course.
"I think I've just grown out of this part of my life, and it's time to close the door on it," vanity shared.
While stepping away from competition, vanity won’t be leaving gaming entirely. He plans to return to school part-time to complete his degree while pursuing full-time streaming for the next six months. If that path doesn’t prove sustainable, he’ll shift his focus entirely to finishing his education.
Vanity made a lasting impact on VALORANT, earning a reputation for his leadership and tactical prowess. His journey began with Version1 in 2021, helping the team qualify for VALORANT Champions Tour Masters Reykjavík, the game’s first international LAN event. His success led to a move to Cloud9, where he spent nearly two years leading one of North America’s top rosters.
In 2023, vanity had a brief stint with Shopify Rebellion Black before returning to Cloud9 later that year. His second run with the organization ended in August 2024, which eventually led him to explore a potential comeback in Counter-Strike.
Reflecting on his career, vanity expressed gratitude to everyone who supported him, teammates, organizations, tournament organizers, and fans, whether they supported or criticized him.
"Having the opportunity to travel the world with some of my best friends is something I will remember for the rest of my life," he said.
As he steps away from professional play, vanity leaves behind a legacy built on leadership, strategy, and unforgettable moments on the international stage. Though this chapter is ending, his influence on the esports scene will remain strong.
