The 2025 Valorant Esports World Cup (EWC) began July 8 with all 16 qualified teams facing off in the opening round of group stage play. Held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the first day featured a packed schedule of matches filled with intense competition.

Group Stage EWC Valorant Results – Day 1

The opening match saw Paper Rex (PRX), reigning VCT Masters Toronto 2025 champion, defeat Bilibili Gaming to launch the event. Karmine Corp followed with a win over G2 Esports, setting up a winners' match against PRX. The VCT Pacific squad advanced to the next stage after a clean 2-0 sweep over the French side in Group A.

BBL Esports opened with a win over Sentinels on Icebox. The Turkish squad continued its momentum in the Group B winners' match, defeating DRX 2-0 to claim first place and secure a playoff spot. DRX had previously taken down XLG Esports, but now drops to the decider match scheduled for July 10.

NRG secured a playoff berth after defeating Rex Regum Qeon 2-0. Both teams had earned their spots in the Group C winners' match with victories over Team Heretics and Titan Esports Club, respectively. The two losing teams are now one step away from elimination.

Fnatic secured a playoff spot with a 2-0 win over Gen.G Esports in the Group D winners match. The VCT Masters Toronto 2025 runner-up had opened the day with a victory against 100 Thieves, while the Korean side advanced earlier with a dominant 13-4 performance over EDward Gaming. Gen.G will now fight for survival in the decider match on July 10.
