Paper Rex Dominates Their Way To Win Their First International Event In Toronto

After a crushing defeat against RRQ in the lower finals of the VCT 2025: Pacific Stage 1, Paper Rex entered Masters Toronto as the lower seed. Paper Rex started strong with an assertive win over Team Heretics in the Swiss Stage opener, but fell short against their archnemesis, Gen.G. With the loss against Gen.G, Paper Rex played the knockout game against Team Liquid. Paper Rex defeated Team Liquid with a 2-1 scoreline to knock Liquid out of the tournament and advance to the playoffs.
In the playoffs, Paper Rex started against the Americas Stage 1 winner, G2 Esports. With momentum on their side, Paper Rex swiftly defeated G2 Esports to advance in the double-elimination bracket. In their subsequent match, Paper Rex went against Sentinels, where Sentinels met the same fate as G2.
After defeating two big teams from the Americas, Paper Rex met Wolves Esports in the upper finals. Wolves had already thrown RRQ and Gen.G into the lower bracket, and with their match against Paper Rex, Wolves would have wanted to register a clean record against all the Pacific teams. Paper Rex had other plans in mind. Without breaking a sweat, Paper Rex defeated Wolves Esports to become the first finalist of the VCT 2025: Masters Toronto.
Paper Rex went against FNATIC in the grand finals. The finale was a best-of-five matchup, with the series kicking off with Sunset. Despite FNATIC’s resistance, Paper Rex stood firm on their ground, helping them register a 13-11 win on Sunset. Icebox was a balanced matchup, with the game going into four overtimes. Thanks to kaajak, FNATIC pulled off a 17-15 victory on Icebox, thus equalising the scoreline.
FNATIC continued to pull the game towards them on the third map of Peal. With a 9-5 scoreline, FNATIC looked in control of the map until Jinggg, d4v4i, and f0rsaken took the charge. The longest-standing trio crushed FNATIC in the second half to win the map with a 13-10 scoreline. Lotus was the do-or-die map for FNATIC. Paper Rex gave everything they had, but FNATIC retaliated, pushing the game into overtime. FNATIC crumbled under the overtime pressure, and Paper Rex secured a 14-12 victory on Lotus to win the series and the VCT 2025: Masters Toronto.
After crumbling in the previous international tournaments, Paper Rex redeemed themselves by winning Masters Toronto. With a KDA of 81/75/32 in the finals, f0rsaken was crowned as the MVP. Players and coach from Paper Rex expressed their emotions and shared how hard they worked to achieve a consistent performance and the championship victory.
